Good morning friends and welcome to day two of self love. I am so glad you came back to learn more with me.
Gratitude. What does that mean exactly? And why am I mentioning it here for day two of our journey? Well it is because I have seen the truly transformational power that being grateful can have in a person’s life. Several years ago, due to an injury, I couldn’t work, go to the gym, run, dress myself, barely walk most days, even just showering or preparing food was difficult. I was living in a new town, isolated, and was extremely lonely. I felt like my world had crashed down around me. Until I discovered a gratitude practice. It was extremely hard and frustrating at first because I didn’t feel like I had anything to be grateful for, but trust me, you always do. Like even if it is what you had for breakfast, or maybe the person who smiled at you at the grocery store. There is ALWAYS something. So make it a point to be grateful for something every day.
What this does, it is changes your perspective, it shifts your mind, heart and body. There has been research to show that a gratitude practice literally changes your body chemistry because of that shift in perspective. By no being so focused on the negative, the bad about yourself or your situation, there is less toxins and bad energy floating around in your body. I certainly noticed this. I also became more aware of something else. Soon I began looking for things to be grateful for! How cool is that?!? Part of the definition of being grateful is a readiness to show appreciation… yes a thousand times over.
Try writing these things down. Keep a journal of all that you have to be grateful for in your life, and all that you are grateful for about yourself. And refer to if often.
Here are a few of mine this morning:
- hot tea on a cold, winter morning
- a soft blanket to cuddle in
- this computer i use to blog with, run my business (see work with me here) and go to school with
- a coach/mentor who support me
- the beach yoga retreat I am going on in two weeks!!
So tell me, what is on your list? Does this feel really foreign to you? If so, that is ok. Jus get started, and I promise you, it will change things for you – a little self love will start to grow.
